A British Mathematician “Alfred North Whitehead” once said: “Art is the imposing of a pattern on experience, and our aesthetic enjoyment is recognition of the pattern”. With this I would like to recognize Dr Kottis’ immense talent driven by his extensive experience and thank him for his courtesy and professionalism. You are a wonderful Plastic Surgeon, but above all else, a terrific human being. Thanks again for the excellent care.

What is
Ear Correction (Otoplasty)?
Otoplasty (ear pinning surgery) reshapes or repositions the outer ear to correct prominent, asymmetric, or oversized ears. The procedure is suitable for children from age five to six and for adults alike. Incisions are hidden in the natural crease behind the ear, the cartilage is reshaped to bring the ear closer to the head, and results are permanent once healed.

What is otoplasty (ear correction surgery)?
Otoplasty is a surgical procedure that reshapes, repositions, or reduces the outer ear. The most common indication is prominent ears — ears that project noticeably away from the head — though the procedure also corrects ear asymmetry, oversized ears (macrotia), congenital deformities, and ears distorted by injury. Otoplasty addresses the outer ear structure only and has no effect on hearing.
What is ear pinning and how does it work?
Ear pinning repositions prominent ears closer to the skull by reshaping or folding the ear cartilage. Through a small incision behind the ear, the cartilage is sculpted or sutured to recreate the antihelical fold — the inner ridge of the ear — which is flat or underdeveloped in protruding ears. The incision is hidden in the natural crease behind the ear. No significant tissue is removed in most cases.
Who is a good candidate for ear correction surgery?
Good candidates include children from approximately age five or six — once ear cartilage has reached near-adult size — as well as adults bothered by ears that protrude, are asymmetric, or are disproportionately large. Candidates should be in good general health and hold realistic expectations about outcomes. Candidacy and the appropriate technique are confirmed during clinical consultation.
Is otoplasty suitable for children?
Yes. Otoplasty is one of the most frequently performed aesthetic procedures for children. Ear cartilage reaches near-adult size by approximately age five to six, making surgery appropriate while still preventing years of potential social difficulty. General anesthesia is used for young children; local anesthesia with sedation is an option for older children and adolescents. The minimum age and anesthesia approach are determined individually at consultation.
What age is best for ear correction surgery?
Otoplasty can be performed once ear cartilage has matured — typically around age five to six. Earlier intervention is possible in some cases. There is no upper age limit for adults: ear correction is equally effective in adults as in children, with similar recovery timelines and results. The optimal timing for a child is assessed individually during consultation, taking cartilage development and readiness into account.
Can otoplasty correct asymmetric ears?
Yes. Otoplasty can address differences in shape, size, and projection between the two ears. Perfect bilateral symmetry is an unrealistic goal — the two sides of any face are naturally not identical — but significant asymmetry can be substantially improved. When only one ear is affected, the procedure may address one side only, or minor adjustment may be included on the other side to improve balance. This is assessed during the pre-operative consultation.
How long is otoplasty recovery?
A protective head bandage is worn for approximately one week, followed by a lighter headband worn at night for several weeks. Mild swelling and bruising resolve within the first one to two weeks. Most patients return to school or non-strenuous work within approximately one week. Contact sports and strenuous physical activity are avoided for four to six weeks. Final ear shape becomes fully apparent as swelling resolves — typically within several weeks.
Will ear correction surgery leave visible scars?
Incisions are placed in the natural crease directly behind the ear, where the scar is concealed by the ear itself when viewed from the front. Scar visibility depends on individual skin type, tone, and healing response. For most patients the scar fades progressively over several months and is not visible in normal social interactions. Incision placement and expected scarring are discussed during consultation.
How long do otoplasty results last?
Ear correction surgery produces permanent structural change to the cartilage. Once the cartilage heals in its repositioned shape, the ears do not revert to their original prominence. Long-term results are stable for the majority of patients. In a small number of cases, partial recurrence may occur over time, which can be addressed with a minor revision procedure if clinically indicated.
Can both ears be corrected in one session?
Yes. When both ears require correction, both sides are treated in a single operative session. This avoids two separate surgeries and two recovery periods. When the two ears differ significantly in shape or projection, the degree of correction is adjusted independently on each side to achieve natural-looking balance. Single-session bilateral otoplasty is the standard approach when both sides are involved.
How much does ear correction surgery cost in Dubai?
Otoplasty cost in Dubai depends on individual anatomy, whether one or both ears require correction, the complexity of the procedure, anesthesia type (local vs. general), and facility standards. An in-person clinical assessment is required for a personalized estimate. Cost is discussed transparently during consultation. Specific price ranges are not published, as the fee reflects the individual surgical plan.
What is the difference between otoplasty and earlobe repair?
Otoplasty reshapes the outer ear cartilage to correct prominent, asymmetric, or oversized ears. Earlobe repair is a separate, simpler procedure that addresses torn, stretched, or elongated earlobes — often caused by heavy earrings or stretched piercings. The two address different structures: otoplasty targets the cartilaginous framework of the ear; earlobe repair targets the soft tissue of the lobe only. Both can be discussed during consultation.
